The place

A bright room, and the sea two steps away

La Nave sits inside the Malta National Aquarium complex on the Qawra promenade. The dining room is high and light, with a shoal of paper fish hung above wave patterned screens, and the terrace looks straight out over the north coast. Guests come off the promenade for coffee, stay for lunch, and come back at sunset.

The kitchen runs wide on purpose. There is a wood oven turning out pizza rossa and bianca, a pasta section making sedanini, strozzapreti and ravioli fresh, a sushi counter, and a grill for Irish beef and Maltese sausage. Breakfast starts at nine, and the kitchen stays on until half past nine at night.

Where exactly is La Nave?

On Triq it-Trunciera at the Malta National Aquarium in Qawra, St Paul's Bay. The plus code XC5F+97 leads to the entrance, and there is a link to Google Maps in the Visit section above.

Do you take bookings?

Yes. You can reserve online through the booking link, or call +356 2258 8100. Terrace tables at sunset are the ones that go first.

What are the opening hours?

Every day from 09:00 to 16:00 and again from 17:00 to 21:30. Breakfast runs from 09:00 to 12:00.

Are there gluten free options?

Yes. Gluten free pasta, burgers and pizza are available at a EUR 2 supplement, and lactose free mozzarella on request. Tell the kitchen when you order.

Do you serve sushi?

Yes, there is a sushi counter, and it is one of the things guests mention most. Sushi is on a separate list from the main menu below, so ask your server for it.

Is it a good spot with children?

It works well. The aquarium is next door, the dining room is large, and the menu runs from pizza and burgers through to bowls and grills.
